As a very famous French painter and one of the most recognisable names for anyone with an interest in art, it should come as no surprise that we’re big fans of Monet’s work here at The House of Ugly Fish. After all, he took a huge amount of inspiration from nature and we too find a lot of ideas for fused glass designs when out and about delivering glass amidst beautiful scenery. It was just our luck, then, when a customer wanted one of our bespoke glass splashbacks created in the style of an existing work by Monet, and we were more than happy to get on board with the project.

After all was said and done, the splashback looked absolutely perfect in the kitchen. You can see the original design that the piece was based off on the right of the picture.

Of course, replicating the delicate brushstrokes and world famous artistry that helped found the Impressionism movement was always going to be a tall task. Translating it into the medium of fused glass art, too, would take a lot of creative thinking to make sure the end result looked just right, but the colourful style would make for a great design. Fortunately, our very own glass artist Lisa Villarospo was happy to take on the challenge, and was well versed in the same kind of techniques often applied by Monet himself.

We think that the results truly speak for themselves on this one, so we’ll let you be the judge. In the meantime, if you feel inspired to get your own piece of glass, well, you know where to find us!

We here at The House of Ugly Fish are always looking to create our next piece of fused glass art, and we love the incredibly varied ideas that we get from customers and clients alike.
