Alright, so the title might be a little misleading, but you could be forgiven for thinking that it was true because of how vivid the design of this splashback is. Although not a recent work, this is definitely one of the most memorable bespoke fused glass kitchen splashbacks we had the pleasure of working on, so we thought we’d say a little bit about it today. It’s definitely still chilly outside in Britain at the moment, so you’ll see why we thought it was especially relevant…

The piece in question found a home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and as you may be able to tell from the image, it’s a beautiful design based on the Aurora Borealis. Otherwise known as the Northern Lights, although you’d probably have to go a fair but further north than Yorkshire to see them, the lights are right there in the client’s kitchen and the design just brings the entire room to life.

The kitchen itself was quite a compact one, but it had two small areas that were just asking to be filled. This is where we came in, although it was quite a tricky space to work with and it would definitely have been a problem for anyone else. Fortunately, the shape of the space was perfect for what we had in mind and it perfectly suited a landscape scene where the horizon would disappear into the corner. The picture we took captures that well, and you can see how the two pieces of the splashback come together to create the illusion of depth.

The splashback is not only a stunning work of fused glass art, but the design just demands attention. We’re sure that the neighbours have definitely felt just a little bit jealous!
