Here’s our third and final blog from our trip to Venice, a city which is highly significant not just because of its roots in glassmaking, but also because it has a special meaning for us on a personal level. Lisa’s mother was from Venice, after all, and to this day she still has relatives who live there. We visited Venice ourselves to really get to the roots of fused glass art, even travelling to Murano to have a first hand look at the glass that inspired Lisa to get started in art.
The above photography was captured by Paul during our visit, as we managed to travel at just the right time to catch the famous Carnival of Venice and all the cultural wonders on offer there. It was incredible to see everyone wearing such extravagant outfits and elaborate traditional masks, and coupled with the scenery of the city it really did feel a little bit like stepping back in time.
Needless to say, it’s more than likely that there’ll be some Carnivale theme items coming out of our kiln in no time at all!
If you’ve ever seen our glass before, then it should come as no surprise that we take so much influence from the classical art of Murano glass and the sunny sights of Venice itself. We strive to put the same amount of care and attention into every piece, ensuring a deep and layered result that you just can’t look away from. Even when you spend long periods staring at your very own bespoke kitchen splashback or wall art panel, you’re sure to find a brand new aspect or detail that you never noticed before. Why not take the first step towards having your ideal piece of glass created?
We here at The House of Ugly Fish are fresh and ready to go after our trip, and we’ve returned to the country with countless sources of inspiration. If you’re looking to get your very own piece of bespoke fused glass art, now would definitely be the time to do it. Make sure you don’t wait to get in contact as soon as you can!
