This beautiful fused glass art splashback is the latest piece to come out of The House of Ugly Fish, and the new feature for today’s blog post. It’s a lovely panel done in a classic Tree of Life style, with a tremendous amount of details to feast your eyes on. It found a home in Sidcup, Kent, and looked stunning in situ, so naturally we’d love to show it off and tell you some more about how it came to be. Read on!

Like we said, the piece is a fused glass art splashback. That means it’s a piece of glass intended to go behind a sink or cooker against the back wall of a kitchen.

The client who commissioned this piece had a clear vision in her mind of how she wanted the tree in the design to look, and we were happy to make sure it looked as close as possible in the end result. She envisioned a particular kind of design, with a whole handful of personalisations and details to be found everywhere you look. All of her children are depicted around a swing, as if captured in a moment by a photograph.

The two family dogs are pictured on the left of the trunk, huddled together and posing nicely for the picture. There’s a lot of life to be found up above, too, where hand cut leaves of all colours sprout from the intricately crafted branches of the tree. You’ll be able to spot birds, butterflies and more. Down below, a host of lovely flowers spring up and continue around the kitchen thanks to the addition of a handful of additional surround panels.
